I did a challenge of *tigglespits's She was asking for people to "take an old character/piece and draw it updated and aware of its updates." AND SO I DID.
This is a redo of an ooold art I did way back in 2004 called 'Monsters in this Noble House' I uploaded it to DA way back when too, but it's been in storage for a long time. Surprisingly, I've always been pretty fond of it even if its super outdated now and nonsensical.
In this updated version I decided to switch everything to real 'monsters' instead of random ones. ..Oh yeah, and Subore snuck in here somehow. He is a teamonger, okay. 8|;; The lineart took forever! There are some minor issues (the biggest is that Sy ended up kind of short proportionwise), but I thought it'd be more important to just finish the whole thing instead of trying to fix it again and again and abandoning it. Aaaand this is actually a speedcolor! I didn't really spend much time on any one section since there was SO MUCH I needed to put color on, but I think it turned out surprisingly nice. (I am trying to say that I have colored single-character pictures in far more time than it took me to do this whole thing.)
I hope it looks a bit more menacing than the old version.
BUT YEP. Boy I miss my widescreen monitor. My workspace in photoshop seems too small now. XDD
This is an awesome remake. I really love all the characters interacting here. But I can't help but love even if there are monsters in the picture, there seems to be a carefree attitude. :3
OH MY GOD As soon as I saw the thumbnail I knew what this was. I LOVED THAT PICTURE WHEN YOU FIRST DID IT, AJGFHJFGH it's still a really cool concept in general and it's always had this creepyawesome atmosphere. This is a FANTASTIC update of it, oh god, the lighting and the washed-out colors make everything so excellent and surreal. I love how you added Su, the sions, and SI in there, that's PERFECT ;3; I also really love Sy's pose, even if he's not as lanky as he usually is. Fucking god. If there's a high-res version of this, I would really want a print of it, serious. ;____; It has so many characters I adore in it, and it brings back such good memories of arting with you way back in the dayyy.
THANK YOU KELLUUU o33o I was trying really hard to keep the lighting and all the colors more appropriate here. XDD It was SO TEMPTING to use the same colors I always do but then it wouldn't have turned out so washed out and orangey like it did. 8D
AHHHhhhh I have two different files of this, actually! One is the gigantic resolution one where I did almost everything, and another is one that I shrunk down so I could stick the texture on and resize the Nailangel. (My PS moves the layers around slowly now. >_< I thought it was because the file was too big, which is why I shrunk it, but it turns out that it's most likely probably Windows 7 doing that.) But I can see what I can do as far as fixing up the bigger size goes!
I understand how difficult it is to stray from a normal color pallet, I almost NEVER do XD;; which ends up sucking the atmosphere out of my art sometimes. BUT. Man. I really love the colors here, the more I look at them the more perfect they look, oh creepy. ;3; AWESOME JOB.
Agh, that sucks about the slowly-moving layers! My PS only does that when I'm running like ten programs. ;___; Oh, oh god, if you could...! I would definitely order a print or, or something. (I've never ordered through DA's system, so I'm not sure how reasonable it is or not...) I so WANT this on my wall though XD!! Let me knoooow!
NO PROBLEM, you kind of took it and ran with it! SO EXCELLENT. You've actually inspired me to redo my challenge with a more... atmospheric piece. >3>!! *LUFFLUFF*

Also, thanks for the challenge! *luff*
