First page of my new sketchbook!
I wanted this sketchbook to be different from the last ones, so I drew Subore instead of Sy. Sy's been on the first pages for at least 5 years now, so I thought someone else deserved a turn. In case you were wondering, I never did finish the 'first page' art of my last sketchbook. I drew one as an ending to these two pieces, but ended up FUBARing it and losing all interest in redoing.
Now THIS piece is...for once, not super saturated IRL, so the colors are allllmost accurate. For me it's also a throwback to a lot of old pieces I did in the days before I put art on the internet, where I would draw whole pages FULL of things being dramatic. Back then, nothing actually made sense, but in this piece, yeah, actually everything does have some importance.
...Which I won't get into fully here. HERE ARE SOME KEY POINTS:
-Second Iteration - A nightmare Sy-beast (design originally pulled from my Eversion art). Actually completely black, and haunts his sleep sometimes. Mostly made of teeth.
-Tree of Life - Looks dead from a distance, but it has energy-leaves that pulse. Was planning on painting some on here, but then realized it would probably mess up my sketchbook paper soooo bad. (Will have to paint something on proper surface later). Has some family significance.
-Forest/City - Representative of the Citadel region overall (where he lives), and I need to figure out a more specific skyline, but I had Rime in mind while drawing it. Rime is probably the biggest city in that region, it's cold, and (to put it lightly) it's also where his father died.
-Tower's wing - ???
The scars on his arms are glowing because he's channeling energy through them in order to kick some serious ass. The glow wouldn't normally 'smoke' like that though. I just...I just was being very artsy with integrating him into the background. ;333; I am also sure the angle of his macheteee is jacked, but that's okay. I didn't notice it until I colored it like half an hour ago. oAo;

It's about 99% marker, .07% gel pen, and .03% white colored pencil.

BUT I HAVE BEEN SAVING THIS.
I like these a lot. Your first pages are always so cool. I have no idea how you do it. (I always get all intimidating and botch the first thing I draw in every sketchbook D: ) There are a lot of fun textures here on the trees and Subore's armor stuff and the nightmare Sy-beast. (I want to see more of that thing, by the way. Very cool looking and also teeth. So many teeth.)
The composition is pretty awesome, too. I like how everything blends together.
Also Subore. he is so cute. I don't know why but my reaction to Subore is always "awwwww".
And man, how do you get that cool fadey look with markers. You make such a heavy medium seem really light~
Also the giant twisty tree is awesome. I love those kind of trees.
